Obuda Noble Mansions

Classical Roman buildings and structures in Gellért Körút -- The Noble District : Obuda. A few nobles have constructed houses utilizing the remains of Roman walls and floors, some with beautiful and intact mosaics. Other remains include the Thermae Mairoes, Roman baths that include pools, steam chambers, massage chambers, a decorated promenade and a temple statuary of the nymphs of healing still remain. Though they at first resisted bathing, the Magyar nobles who reside in Obuda learned that custom from native who remained in the area, and they continue to use the facilities after the Romans left. As they have come to appreciate the benefits of bathing, the nobles have tried to keep these luxurious baths a secret from their counterparts in buds, lest other more powerful nobles drive them out and take their residents.
